Trailing shrub native to the Mediterranean. Its flower buds are preserved in vinegar as a condiment. (Capparis spinosa, family Capparidaceae.)

The roasted section turned out to be our favorite, with choices of nicely done skate ($25) accompanied by roasted artichokes, caper berries and lemon; a fulfilling rendition of a pounded veal chop ($31) topped with freshly made mozzarella and a vibrant tomato sauce; and roasted duck ($28) perched in a blood orange-boosted broth.
Drizzle some caper sauce and balsamic vinegar around the dish and garnish with caper berries and rosemary.
Their sauteed skate ($11) makes a novel beginning, surrounded by slices of squash and fried caper berries.
