Capo Miseno

Promontory in Campania region, southern Italy, at the northwest extremity of the Bay of Naples. Under the Roman republic, Misenum (modern Porto di Miseno) was a villa resort, and there are remains of villas, baths, and cisterns. In 31 BC it became the chief station for the Mediterranean fleet, and remained so under the Roman Empire. The town was destroyed by the Saracens in 890.
