Cappoquin

Market town in County Waterford, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 1,200. It is situated on the estuary of the River Blackwater, at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains, 6 km/4 mi east of Lismore and 6 km/4 mi south of the Cistercian monastery of Mount Melleray. Cappoquin is regarded as one of the best coarse-fishing centres in Ireland. The main industries in the area are the Cappoquin Chickens factory and a bacon-processing plant.

Cappoquin House in the centre of the town is an 18th century Georgian house with gardens and is open to the public. It was built by the Keane family, who also established a large ironworks in the town. Tourin House and gardens are on a 17th century estate just outside the town.
