Capriati, Jennifer Marie (1976– )| US tennis player. A powerful right-handed player, she made history by turning professional shortly before her 14th birthday in March 1990, and ended the year ranked in the world's top ten. However, due to the pressures of the game as well as off-court problems, she played just one professional match from September 1993 to February 1996. Her win in Strasbourg in 1999 was her first Tour title for more than six years. In 2001 she won the Australian and French Opens and was briefly ranked as the world's number one player. In 2002 she retained her Australian Open title, beating Martina Hingis in the final for the second consecutive year. |

| Capriati's problems prompted the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) to review its age eligibility rule, which now excludes 14-year-olds from competing on the WTA tour and limits the appearances of 15–17-year-olds. In 2007 Capriati had still not given up her hopes of a second comeback despite not playing a professional match in nearly three years. |
