Orchestral work by Tchaikovsky, composed during a visit to Rome, Italy, in 1880 and first performed in Moscow, Russia, on 18 December 1880.

There was also something of a feeling of all-out assault in a big, joyous, sunny interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien - a piece which may have been inspired by Italy but has a big dose of tarantella-like Spanish dash in there as well, and in Dunaevsky's little-known, torrid Children Of Captain Grant Overture, which compared with the rest of the programme was a rather disappointing taste of something and nothing.
plus Bohemian Rhapsody, a selection from Abba and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.
They'll be playing Spanish, Italian and French classics, including Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien and Ravel's Bolero, and there will be some cabaret numbers as well with mezzo soprano Sally Burgess (below) adding a sunny sparkle.
