Caprivi Strip

Northeastern part of Namibia, a narrow strip between Angola and Botswana, giving the country access to the Zambezi River. The area is now synonymous with the Caprivi administrative region of Namibia, governed from Katima Mulito.

A secessionist movement in the Caprivi strip in August 1999 launched its first attack on Namibian government soldiers. Namibian government troops made use of the state of emergency laws to search properties and interrogate suspects.
