Town in northeastern Illinois, 45 km/28 mi northwest of Chicago; population (1990) 19,400. It is mainly a residential community, with some light industry producing hardware, electrical equipment, and vacuum cleaners. The nearby Villa Olivia Ski Area attracts local holidaymakers.
