The zebra finch, or spotted-sided finch, is a member of the waxbill family of seed-eating birds found in Australia. While its overall coloration is comparatively uniform, it has bold markings. It has become a popular cagebird and captive breeding of these birds has developed several colour varieties.

Any of various songbirds of the family Fringillidae, in the order Passeriformes (perching birds). They are seed-eaters with stout conical beaks. The name may also be applied to members of the Emberizidae (buntings), and Estrildidae (weaver-finches).

Species include goldfinches, crossbills, redpolls, and canaries.
