Carey, Henry (1687-1743)

English poet and musician. He wrote the song ‘Sally in Our Alley’. ‘God Save the King’ (both words and music) has also been attributed to him.

Carey was a pupil of Thomas Roseingrave and Francesco Geminiani. He wrote libretti for John Lampe's operas The Dragon of Wantley, Margery, and Amelia.
