Cargill Incorporated

Privately-owned US multinational company, founded in 1865 in Minnesota. It buys, processes, and distributes grain and other agricultural commodities, as well as manufacturing and selling livestock feed and ingredients for processed foods and pharmaceuticals. Another major area of company activity is financial risk management in the commodity markets.

In the Forbes publication's list of America's Largest Private Companies 2007, Cargill was ranked second by revenue, employing 158,000 people in 66 countries. Descendents of the Cargill and MacMillan family founders own the common equity in the company.
