CarinaConstellation of the southern hemisphere, represented as a ship's keel. Its brightest star is Canopus, the second brightest in the night sky; it also contains Eta Carinae, a massive and highly luminous star embedded in a gas cloud, perhaps 8,000 light years away from the Sun. Carina was formerly regarded as part of Argo, and is situated in one of the brightest parts of the Milky Way. |
