Carl XVI Gustavus (1946– )
King of Sweden from 1973. He succeeded his grandfather Gustavus VI, his father having been killed in an air crash in 1947. Under the new Swedish constitution, which became effective on his grandfather's death, the monarchy was stripped of all power at his accession.
