Carlyle, Joan (1931- )

English soprano. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1955 as Frasquita, and remained there until 1969 as Pamina, Sophie, Arabella, Desdemona, and Tippett's Jenifer. In 1965 she sang at Glyndebourne as Mozart's Countess. She appeared as a guest at Munich and Vienna and recorded Nedda with Karajan.
