Carmona, Antonio (1869–1951)

Portuguese politician and general. After a military coup in 1926 he was made prime minister and minister of war, with dictatorial powers. In 1928 he was elected president for life by plebiscite, and in 1932 he appointed António Salazar as prime minister and virtual dictator.
