Carné, Marcel (1906-1996)

French director. A romantic fatalism characterizes his films, such as Le Quai des brumes/Port of Shadows (1938) and Le Jour se lève/Daybreak (1939). His masterpiece, Les Enfants du paradis/The Children of Paradise (1943-45), was made with his longtime collaborator, the poet and screenwriter Jacques Prévert.

Other films include Drôle de Drame/Bizarre Bizarre (1937), also with Prévert, and Hôtel du Nord (1938).
