Carnicer, Ramón (1789-1855)

Spanish composer. He was a choirboy at Urgel Cathedral, then went to Barcelona, and in 1808 fled to Minorca when Spain was invaded by France. He later managed the Italian opera at Barcelona and wrote Italian works for it, into which he introduced Spanish songs. In 1827 he was called by royal command to direct the opera at Madrid.
