Carniola

Former crownland and duchy of Austria, most of which was included in Slovenia, part of the kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) between 1919 and 1991. The western districts of Idrija and Postojna, then allocated to Italy, were transferred to Yugoslavia in 1947. Carniola is now part of independent Slovenia.

is a term used from the late 14th to the 16th century referring to Styria, Carinthia, Carniola and assorted smaller Habsburg possessions bordering the area.
Carniola, the heartland of present Slovenia, was created as part of Austria.
