Carosio, Margherita (1908-2005)

Italian soprano. She made her debut in Novi Ligure, in 1926, as Lucia. She sang Musetta at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1928 and was a regular performer at La Scala 1929-55 (making her debut as Oscar), where she sang in the first performances of Mascagni's Nerone and Wolf-Ferrari's Il Campiello. At Salzburg she was heard as Rosina and Cimarosa's Carolina (1939 and 1951), and she returned to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1946 and 1950. Her other roles include Violetta, Adina, and Menotti's Amelia.
