Carpentersville

Town in Kane County, northeastern Illinois, USA, on the Fox River, a suburb 5 km/3 mi north of Elgin and 61 km/38 mi northwest of Chicago; population (1990) 23,000. Originally a community of dairy and grain farms, it later came to produce ploughshares and specialised steel items. The town has recently become increasingly residential.
