Carr, John

Carr, John (1723–1807)

English architect. He made his reputation as a designer of country mansions in the Palladian style. These include Harewood House (1759–71), in collaboration with Robert Adam; Tabley House (1760–67); and Basildon Park (1776).

His other buildings include the County Court House, York, and the Crescent at Buxton, Derbyshire 1779–84. He was twice Lord Mayor of York.
