Carrà, Carlo (1881-1966)

Italian painter. He was one of the original members of the Futurist group. His best-known work of the period is The Funeral of the Anarchist Galli (1911; Museum of Modern Art, New York). In 1917 he broke away to form the metaphysical painting movement with Giorgio de Chirico, and subsequently developed a fresco-like style based on the works of early Renaissance painters such as Masaccio.
