Belfast Lough

Inlet on the east coast of Northern Ireland, between the counties of Antrim and Down. It is an estuary of the River Lagan, and is 11 km/7 mi wide at its mouth. Belfast Lough extends 24 km/15 mi inland, and has the towns of Belfast, Carrickfergus, Holywood, and Bangor on its shores. The area adjacent to the port of Belfast is heavily industrialized.
