Carroll, Madeleine (1906-1987)

British-born screen actor, whose aloof blonde in The 39 Steps (1935) became the female archetype for future Hitchcock thrillers.

Her acting debut was in The Guns of Loos in 1928. Other films include Young Woodley (1930), I Was a Spy (1933), The Secret Agent (1936), The General Died at Dawn (1936), On the Avenue (1937), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), Honeymoon in Bali (1939), One Night in Lisbon (1941), and Bahama Passage (1941).
