Carrowkeel

Neolithic and Bronze Age cemetery set on a hilltop of the Bricklieve Mountains overlooking Lough Arrow, in County Sligo, Republic of Ireland. An impressive group of 14 round cairns contain megalithic passage-graves, cruciform in layout with corbelled vaults; one chamber is lit by the setting Sun of the summer solstice. Neolithic pottery discovered here dates from 2500 to 2000 BC. During the Bronze Age a number of wedge dolmens were constructed for individual burials, until about 1500 BC. The remains of a Neolithic settlement of clocháns or beehive huts lie nearby on the northern slopes of the mountain.
