Medellín cartel

Colombian cocaine-trafficking organization responsible, by the end of the mid-1980s, for most of the cocaine entering the USA. It was founded and led by Pablo Escobar until his death in 1993. Escobar's organization pursued a violent campaign against the Colombian state in 1989 and 1990, killing three presidential candidates and hundreds of public officials and civilians in a string of bombings and shootings.
