Carteret

Borough in Middlesex County, northeastern New Jersey, USA, on the Arthur Kill and the Rahway River, opposite Staten Island, New York; population (1990) 19,000. This highly industrialized community refines oil and smelts copper, has boiler shops and steel mills, and manufactures chemicals, fertilizer, paints and varnishes, textiles, and tobacco products.
