Carterville

City in Williamson County, southern Illinois, USA, 5 km/3 mi southwest of Herrin and just north of Crab Orchard Lake; population (1990) 3,600. Carterville lies in an area heavily strip-mined for bituminous coal.

It is the seat of John A Logan College (1967).
