Carver, Jonathan

Carver, Jonathan (1710–1780)

American traveller, born in Connecticut. He served in the French and Indian wars, and after the peace of 1763 set out on a journey of exploration westward. He explored the country of the upper Mississippi, he was the first colonist to visit the falls of St Anthony, in 1766. His Travels through the Interior Parts of North America in the Years 1766, 1767, 1768 was published in London in 1778.
