cassia

Bark of an aromatic Southeast Asian plant (Cinnamomum cassia) belonging to the laurel family (Lauraceae). It is very similar to cinnamon, and is often used as a substitute for it. Cassia is also a genus of pod-bearing tropical plants of the family Caesalpiniaceae, many of which have strong purgative (cleansing) properties; C. senna is the source of the laxative drug senna (which causes the bowels to empty).
