Cassilly, Richard (1927– )

US tenor. He sang on Broadway in Menotti's The Saint of Bleeker Street before his debut at the New York City Opera as Tchaikovsky's Vakula. In 1959 he appeared as Laca in Chicago, a role he repeated on his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1968. His other roles there were Florestan, Tannhäuser, Siegmund, and Otello. He made his debuts at Vienna, Munich, and La Scala in 1970, and performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1973 as Radames. In 1974 he sang Aaron in a London concert performance of Schoenberg's Moses und Aron, and in 1988 sang Tannhäuser at Chicago.
