Castellón de la Plana

Port and capital of Castellón province, in the Valencian Community, eastern Spain; population (1991) 133,200. It is in the centre of a fertile, irrigated district; oranges, onions, carobs, and brandy are produced. Manufactures include textiles, paper, porcelain, and chemicals. There are several churches, a museum, a library, and gardens.

Castellón de la Plana

Province of eastern Spain in the northern Valencian Community; area 6,679 sq km/2,579 sq mi; population (1991 est) 445,100. Its eastern coastline is on the Mediterranean Sea. The province is fertile and populous on the coastal plains, through which the River Mijares runs, but barren in the hilly districts of the interior. Products include oranges, cereals, olives, and almonds. The capital is Castellón de la Plana.
