Castiglione, Achille

    0.11 sec.

Castiglione, Achille (1918-2002)

Italian industrial designer. He worked with his brothers Livio (1911-1979) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) until they died. A key member of the generation of Italian designers who trained as architects before 1939 and became consultant designers for industry after 1945, his work represents modern Italian design at its most innovative and dramatic.

Castiglione has worked for numerous product manufacturers, both in Italy and abroad, but his most notable designs include lights for Flos - among them ‘Taraxacum’ 1950, a minimal sculptural design - and furniture pieces for Zanotta, including his ‘Messandro’ stool 1970 which is based on a tractor seat and demonstrates his use of the ‘ready-made’ in the context of design.
