Castiglioni, Niccolò (1932– )

Italian composer and pianist. His music is eclectic in style, influenced by Debussy, Messiaen, Webern, and John Cage, and remarkable for its frequently delicate textures. He has also pursued a career as a concert pianist.

He studied with Giorgio Ghedini at the Milan Conservatory.

Works

Orchestral

Impromptus I–IV, Rondels, Sinfonia (1969).

Instrumental

Movimento continuato for piano and small ensemble (1959), Gymel for flute and piano; Inizio di movimento for piano.

Vocal

A Solemn Music I for soprano and chamber orchestra (after Milton; 1963).
