Castleconnell

Village in County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, 13 km/8 mi north of the town of Limerick; population (2002) 2,650. It is situated on the River Shannon, and is popular with salmon fishers. On a rock overlooking the Shannon, where it flows over a series of limestone shelves, are the ruins of Burke Castle. In the 18th century Castleconnell was a spa.

Castleconnell gives its name to a particular form of salmon-fishing rod.
