Castlepollard

Village in County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland, 20 km/12 mi north of Mullingar; population (2002) 1,500. Tulnally Castle, 2 km/1 mi to the west, is the residence of Lord Longford; the Longfords were active in Dublin's literary and theatrical society and the house is mentioned under its former name (until 1961) of Pakenham Hall in the memoirs of the 18th-century novelist Maria Edgeworth.

To the north of Castlepollard are loughs Kinale and Sheelin; the latter has trout fishing.

The gardens of Tulnally Castle are open to the public.
