Castrucci, Pietro (1679-1752)

Italian violinist, conductor, and composer, and the brother of Prospero Castrucci. He studied with Corelli in Rome and went to England with Lord Burlington in 1715. He became the leader in Handel's opera orchestra, but was replaced by Festing in 1737. In 1750 he settled in Dublin. He played an instrument of his own invention, the violetta marina, in Handel's Orlando.
