Retailer offering such an extensive and comprehensive range of products of a particular type at discounted prices that it threatens to eliminate the competition. In the UK, out-of-town superstore retailers, such as IKEA, could be described as category killers.

This book explores the rise of category killers (large specialty stores like Barnes & Noble, PETsMART, and Wal-Mart) and argues that these retailers have dramatically altered the buying experience.
Deeper talk moves on to ponder other forms of consolidation--the shrinking number of brokers, the growth of the casual theme restaurant industry, the growing importance of aggressive supermarket chains and even more aggressive category killers such as Costco, Sam's Club, and Wal-Mart.
While take-up of space at the up-market shopping centers is flat, it is expected that space now occupied by department stores will partially be reallocated to superstores and category killers.
