Caterina Cornaro

Opera by Donizetti (libretto by G Sacchero), first produced at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples, Italy, on 12 January 1844; it was revived in 1972 with a concert performance in London and a production in Naples. The plot tells how the Venetian Caterina loves Gerardo but has been sworn to Lusignano, King of Cyprus. The competing wooers are reconciled when Lusignano saves Gerardo's life.
