Caunt, Benjamin (1815-1861)

English pugilist and publican. His style was never very scientific, but he was resolute, powerful and courageous. He became champion of England in 1838, after beating Bendingo in 75 rounds. In 1843 he became proprietor of the Coach and Horses public-house on St Martin's Lane in London, England. Caunt was born in Hucknall Torkard, Nottinghamshire, England.
