Cavazzoni, Marco Antonio (c. 1490–c. 1560)

Italian composer, father of Girolamo Cavazzoni. The two ricercari from his Recerchari, Motetti, Canzoni for organ, published in Venice in 1523, are toccata-like pieces designed as preludes to the two motet arrangements; the Canzoni are arrangements of French chansons and the forerunners of the Italian instrumental canzone.
