Cazenovia

Town in Madison County, central New York, USA, at the southeastern corner of Lake Cazenovia, 24 km/15 mi southeast of Syracuse; population (1990) 6,500. Its economy relies on agriculture and tourism.

Settled in the 1790s, it was an important stop on the westward turnpike (now Route 20). Cazenovia College was founded here in 1824. The town is said to be the birthplace of Iroquois Confederacy leader Hiawatha.
