Ceccato, Aldo (1934– )

Italian conductor. He studied in Milan and made his debut there in 1964, with Don Giovanni. His US debut was with the Chicago Opera in 1969, and he was musical director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra 1973–77. He led Rossini's L'equivico stravagante at the 1968 Wexford Festival, La Traviata at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1970, and Ariadne at Glyndebourne in 1971. He held posts with the Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra 1975–83, and with the Bergen Symphony Orchestra from 1985. He conducted Maria Stuarda at Bergamo in 1989.
