Cefalù

Resort town in northern Sicily, 60 km/37 mi southeast of Palermo; population (1991) 13,800. Sardine fishing is an important industry. Situated on a high cliff, Cefalù has a Norman cathedral, partly 12th-century, with colourful Byzantine ceiling and wall mosaics. Traces remain of the ancient Greek city of Cephaloedium.
