Celtic field

Any small square field surviving as earthworks or soilmarks in southern England, dating from the Bronze Age or Roman times. These field patterns can be seen covering large areas in the chalklands and in less developed regions such as Dartmoor. Celtic fields are also found as terraces set into hillsides.
