Centre County

County in central Pennsylvania, USA, in the Allegheny Mountains; area 2,865 sq km/1,106 sq mi; population (1990) 123,800. The county is bordered (to the northwest) by the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Its seat is Bellefonte, and State College is its most important urban locale. The county is a centre of agriculture, limestone quarrying, and coal mining, and there is some manufacturing.
