Cerignola

Town in Apulia region, southeast Italy, 35 km/22 mi southeast of Foggia; population (1991) 55,000. There is a linen industry, and products include olives and wine. The Spanish soldier Hernández Gonzalvo di Córdoba defeated the French, under the Duke of Nemours, near here in 1503. There is a cathedral.
