At a certain point of Filocolo's plot, when Florio takes the name of Filocolo (from Greek "philos" and "colon" = love's labor) for the journey, they reach a forest in Tuscany, not far from Pisa, called "cerreto" (oakgrove), from which the homologous place Certaldo, and therefore the identity of Giovanni of Certaldo alias Boccaccio. This Tuscan cooking vacation offers 3 hands-on cooking classes, a demonstration cooking class at the chef's restaurant, wine tastings, a visit to the local market in Certaldo, and cultural excursions to the Tuscan cities of Lucca, San Gimignano and Pisa. For Renaissance examples on the instability of woman, see Certaldo, 105 and 239; Biondo, 77 ("does not have any stability"); Dolce, 1545, b6 ("their thoughts are flighty, less steady;" quoted in Jordan, 69). |
