The Matterhorn, in the Pennine Alps on the Swiss–Italian border, is snow-covered all year round. It is an impressive pyramid shape, with sheer cliff faces, and is a popular resort for climbers.

The Matterhorn, one of the Pennine Alps in Switzerland, reaches 4,478 m/14,691 ft above sea level and is Europe's second highest mountain. It was first climbed by the British mountaineer Edward Whymper (1840–1911) in 1865. Straddling the Swiss–Italian border, its distinctive pyramid-shaped peak was formed over thousands of years by glacial erosion.
