Chabon, Michael (1963– )

US writer. His novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (2000), about two young Jewish men who contributed to the heyday of the comic book industry during the 1940s, won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His works are known for their themes of identity and isolation and for their complex, descriptive language.

He was born in Washington, DC, and educated at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the University of California, Irvine. His first novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (1988), was written as his master's degree thesis at the University of California and became a bestseller. His other works of fiction include A Model World (1991), Wonder Boys (1995, filmed 2001), Werewolves in Their Youth (1999), the children's novel Summerland (2002), and The Yiddish Policemen's Union (2007).
