Chadwick, Henry

Chadwick, Henry (1824-1908)

English-born US sportswriter and baseball executive. Hhe became a sportswriter for the New York Times in 1856 and wrote some of the earliest articles about baseball. For the next fifty years, he wrote prolifically about the game, served on rules committees, compiled official statistics, and published books.

He was born in Exeter, England, immigrating to the USA at an early age. Known as ‘The Father of Baseball’, he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1938.
